Contrary to misconception, female condom enhances sexual activity and does not affect sexual gratification, an international non-governmental organisation, Pathfinder International Nigeria, has said.

The NGO, which has been working in Nigeria for over 55 years championing sexual and reproductive health rights, also called on pharmaceutical companies to start producing more methods of contraceptive technology.

It noted that this was necessary because female condoms have not been popular in Nigeria.

The Country Director for Pathfinder International Nigeria, Dr. Amina Aminu Dorayi, stated these in an interview with The PUNCH during a football competition to create awareness about family planning and female condoms as a contraceptive method.

The programme was funded by the female condom company through Pathfinder International as the implementers.

Dorayi said, “Your question (about reducing sexual satisfaction instead of skin to skin) is very interesting; it is a misconception that female condom affects sexual gratification, but it also actually enhances sexual activity.
