Ikufojiri Olaitan Abdulrahman popularly and professionally known as Oxlade is a young West African afro-fusion singer and songwriter. Oxlade is considered to be one of the fastest growing artist of 2021.
Oxlade Early life
Oxlade was born in Lagos on the 22nd of April, 1997. He was brought up by his grandmother and other relatives after he lost his mother at a tender age.
What many don’t know about this brilliant artist is the fact that his musical career started in the church at the age of ten. Oxlade was in a junior choir and grew from there to become a church choir leader.
During his secondary school education, Oxlade never stopped singing, though he switched to secular music at some point unsurprisingly.
He furthered his studies in History and International relations at the Lagos State University (LASU) where he schooled for two years before dropping out to solely focus on his musical career.
This decision did not go down well with his father who ceased to support him financially in any way.
Oxlade Road to Stardom:
Despite the odds, lack of family support and the challenge of making a name in the Nigerian music industry, Oxlade’s break came through in 2018, when popular artist Blaqbonez heard his single ‘Sour’ and went ahead to feature in another Oxlade’s song ‘Mamiwota’.
At this point, he recorded massive attention on social media, including that of Fireboy.
Oxlade went on to feature in Fireboy DML’s single, ‘Sing’. This song earned Oxlade a batch of fans who welcomed his entry to the music industry. He also got the attention of famous Nigerian musician, Davido and this pushed him several notches up in his career.
On the 27th of March, 2020, Oxlade released his 6-track EP titled “OXYGEN” filled with heart felt love songs that made waves in Nigeria, across the shores of Africa and broke musical charts. It was said that the tracks were inspired by a difficult breakup with his girlfriend. Whatever the circumstances were, the EP was another feather to Oxlade’s hat.
Tracks in this album includes Tables turn (which featured Moelogo), O2, Hold on, Koroso, weakness and Away.
Shortly after, he released the visuals of the track ‘Away’ which was shot in the coast of Ghana.
Oxlade also featured on Skip Marley’s track titled “Slow down” alongside American singer H.E.R and Davido.
He released a single afterwards “Dis Kind Thing(DKT)” which shows him doing his music the best way he can.
This year, 2021, Oxlade was featured in Ice Prince’s single, “Kolo”. He is currently signed to Knostra music, Substrate music and The plug.
Oxlade boasts of a networth estimate of $50,000 – $100,000.
